HHAA
Breeding Requirements
A. To be eligible for registration:
1. The sire and/or dam must be registered with the
HHHA;
2. The sire, if he is deceased at the time his frozen semen is
used, must have been registered with the HHAA at the time the
semen was collected and frozen.
3. The dam, if she is deceased at the time her frozen embryo is
used, must have been registered with the HHAA at the time the
embryo was collected and frozen.
4. The gestation must fall within normal and standard time limits.
Gestations not falling with the normal parameters must be verified
by a veterinarian.
B. Natural Cover: If a mare is
pasture bred, it must be ensured that only one stallion has access
to her during any one heat period.
C. On-Premise Artificial Insemination with
Fresh Semen:
If two or more stallions of breeding age are on the premises,
all semen shall be properly identified between collection and
insemination.
D. Transported Fresh Semen:
1. Prior to foaling, any mare covered by transported
semen must be genetically typed, at the mare owner's expense,
by an approved laboratory under contract to the Association. The
resulting foal must also be genetically typed at the owner's expense
and is eligible for registration only if it unquestionably qualifies
as the offspring of its alleged sire and dam.
2. All semen shipments must be accompanied by a certificate from
the stallion owner/agent.
E. Frozen Semen:
1. Prior to foaling, any mare covered by frozen
semen must be genetically typed, at the mare owner's expense,
by an approved laboratory under contract to the Association. The
resulting foal must also be genetically typed at the owner's expense
and is eligible for registration only if it unquestionably qualifies
as the offspring of its alleged sire and dam.
2. All shipments of frozen semen must be accompanied by a certificate
from the stallion owner/agent or the owner of the semen.
3. Frozen semen breedings are subject to all of the requirements
made for transported fresh semen regardless of where the frozen
semen is dispensed.
F. Embryo Transfer:
Foals produced by transfer of the embryo to recipient mare
1. The donor mare's genetic type must be on file
with the Association before the mare is bred.
2. The resulting foal must be genetically typed and, if there
is a question about its parentage, the genetic type of the recipient
mare shall also be considered:
3. All breeding and embryo transfer dates must be properly documented:
G. Regardless of the method employed,
a mare may not be covered by more than one stallion during any
one heat period. If a mare is covered by more than one stallion
within 45 days, genetic typing of the resulting foal and its dam
shall be mandatory to determine the correct parentage. The genetic
typing costs shall be borne by the owner of the foal applying
for registration.
H. All stallions must be genetically
typed by an approved laboratory under contract to the Association
prior to being used for breeding purposes and an official copy
of the official genetic type report shall be filed with the Association.
I. If, in the opinion of the Breeders
Board, there is justifiable cause to question the parentage of
a foal; the Board may require the foal, sire and dam to be genetically
typed. The results of this test, together with such other information
as may be available, may be taken into consideration by the Breeders
Board in its determination of the foal's parentage and registration.
HHAA STALLION END OF YEAR BREEDING REPORT
A. On or before January 31 of each year, the owner
or lessee of each approved stallion registered with the Association,
or the owner of frozen semen from an approved stallion registered
with the
Association, as the case might be, must submit a stallion breeding
report on a form provided by the Association, listing all mares
bred to the stallion or with the stallion's semen, during the
preceding calendar year, whether such mares were determined in
foal or not.
B. The stallion breeding report shall include the mare's registration
number, the mare's registered name, the name and address of the
owner, or lessee if applicable, at the time of service, and all
breeding or shipment dates or dates of exposure as well as the
method of breeding employed .This report must include mares bred
by transported fresh or frozen semen.
C. Each stallion breeding report shall be signed by the record
owner, or the lessee if applicable, of each stallion at the time
of service, or by the owner of the dispensed frozen semen, as
the case might be. A separate report needs to be completed for
each individual stallion.
D. No foal application will be considered unless the stallion
report covering that foal has been received by the Registrar.
E. The stallion owner shall advise the Association of any leasing
arrangements made for the stallion and of any change in the person(s)
responsible for the stallion. A copy of the written lease must
be on file with the Registrar.
F. If a stallion has not covered any mares during a particular
year, the owner shall so advise the Association.
G. Stallion owners shall keep accurate and complete records of
all mares bred and shall give the Registration Committee access
to such records when requested.
STALLION BREEDING CERTIFICATE
A. In addition to the preparation and filing of
an annual stallion breeding report a breeding certificate shall
be executed by the recorded owner, or the lessee if applicable,
of the stallion and countersigned by the owner of the dam on a
form provided without cost by the Association. Individual farm
certificates are permissible as long as all the necessary information
is provided.
B. The breeding certificate shall contain the name and description
of the mare, her registration number, if any, the name of the
stallion, his registration number and the date or dates of service.
C. No foal registration will be issued unless a signed breeding
certificate is on file.
D. All registration applications must be accompanied by a Stallion
Breeding Certificate signed by the stallion owner even if such
stallion is not a HHAA registered stallion.
NAMING OF HORSE
A. No horse will be registered in the records of
the Association by any name which is a duplicate of the name of
a horse, living or dead, already registered with the Association.
B. Punctuation marks are not permitted.
C. The horse must be named prior to being used for breeding purposes.
Thereafter, the name of the horse cannot be changed.
D. The Association may refuse to register a horse by any name
that appears inappropriate, misleading or obscene.
REGISTRATION PROCEDURE
A. Before any horse shall be eligible for registration
all transfers of the sire and dam must be completed.
B. The owner of the horse to be registered shall execute an application
for registration of the horse on a form provided by the Association
which shall be identified as "Application for
Registration.” The said application shall be accompanied
by the required fee, and shall include the name, sex, color, markings,
foaling date of the horse to be registered and the name, registration
number and color of the sire and dam.
C. The Association and its officers shall use diligence in securing
true information in connection with the registration of any and
all animals registered, but neither the Association nor its officers
shall be answerable in damages for the issuance of any certificate
of registration made in conformity with information supplied by
the application for registration.
D. All lease agreements shall be filed with the office of the
Registrar, and shall contain the following information:
1. registered name, number, age, and pedigree
description of the horse being leased;
2. Name and address of owner/lessor and lessee (printed or typed)
3. Beginning date of lease and either a) termination date, or
b) statement that lease continues until further notice; signature
of owner/lessor and lessee.
4. A lease may be terminated by the owner/lessor by filing with
the Registrar a written notice clearly identifying the lease
and the termination date of the lease, and stating that a copy
of the notice of termination has been mailed to the lessee at
the lessee’s last known address.
If the written notice of termination is received by the Registrar
after the termination date stated in the notice, then the termination
date shall be deemed to be the postmark date.
5. During the period that the lease is in effect, the lessee
shall be deemed to be the recorded owner of any foal born to
the leased mare, unless the lease agreement expressly providing
otherwise, signed by the owner/lessor and the lessee, is received
by the Registrar prior to or simultaneously with a request for
registration of the foal.
6. Foals born on the termination date shall be deemed to be
owned by the lessee.
E. The completion of a registration certificate
takes at least 6 to 8 weeks to process.
Completion of HHAA Registration Application
Registration applications must include the following:
A. Colored 4 x 6 inch pictures of all 4 sides of
the horse including the feet. For unusual markings also include
additional close ups. All photos shall be marked on the back of
the photo with date of birth, sire, dam, and name of owner.
B. If the dam is an approved outcross, a copy of
her registration certificate must be furnished verifying the following
information:
1. Name of the recorded owner at the time of breeding,
2. The dam’s date of birth, color, breed and registration
number,
3. The dam’s 5-generation pedigree from her respective
registry or an approved source. Hand written or farm generated
pedigrees will not be accepted.
C. If the sire is an approved outcross, a copy of
his registration certificate must be furnished verifying the following
information:
1. Name of the recorded owner at the time of breeding.
2. The sire’s date of birth, color, breed and registration
number.
3. The sire’s 5 generation pedigree from her respective
registry or approved source. Hand written or farm generated
pedigrees will not be accepted.
D. Signed Breeders Certificate from the stallion owner with the
breeding dates and method.
E. All appropriate fees must be paid in full.
F. Lease agreement must be on file with the registrar.
G. All markings or other points of identification must be drawn
on the registration application and all appropriate boxes checked.
Definition of Horse Ownership for Registration
A. Single ownership – All forms must be signed
by the documented owner. If an agent is applicable, said agent
must be on file with the registry prior to signing privileges.
B. Dual ownership:
1. “AND” partnerships require both signatures
on all documents.
2. “AND/OR” partnerships require the signature of
only one of the owners
